Whitley Abbey School achieves Specialist Status
On Tuesday 3 July the Secretary of State for Education announced that Whitley Abbey School was awarded Specialist School status. We are proud to have been awarded this status in recognition of our examination success and ability to make a difference to our students.
We will become a Business and Enterprise Specialist School. This means that we will use our strengths in Business, ICT and Maths to raise attainment further and also deliver Enterprise activity in all of our work.
The School will receive £150,000 for new building and capital investment. This will provide a purpose built Business and ICT suite that will reflect the layout of a real working environment. This will be used for both our students and for wider community use.
We will also invest in our ICT capability to allow all students to access their school work “any where, anytime”. No longer will the excuse, “I left it at school” be a way to avoid homework. More importantly all students will be able to work independently and access a very wide range of support away from the building and teachers.
Students and Parents will see a difference very quickly from September as we start to implement our detailed and rigorous action plan. We have Status for four years and in this time we will be expected to raise standards and to prove our worth. Then we have to bid again! >> next story |
