 Enrichment at Whitley Abbey

Whitley Abbey provides a rich variety of activities alongside normal lessons. Many of these take place after school and some during the school day instead of timetabled lessons. All students are expected to be challenged in something above and beyond the normal day.

Enrichment

At the end of the day, at the weekend and in the holidays there are activities planned. Our staff are willing to go that little bit extra to make Whitley Abbey a special and stimulating place to learn. The challenges provided range from litter picking in the local community to GCSE revision classes and skiing in the French Alps!

A current snapshot of activity on a single night would include the computer club for girls, trampoline club, AS Photography and Science Club.

The PE team provide a very significant set of opportunities for young people to excel in competitive activity and participate in team challenges. There is always a sporting event or activity on every night of the week.

Students also access opportunities within the school day. Many students participate in individual music lessons, participate in external visits and work with visitors to the school in breakout activity.

Post 16 students have a special period of Enrichment Time, every Wednesday afternoon - All students are expected to participate in the programme which includes The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Scheme, AS Critical Thinking, Young Enterprise and Sport.

The Whitley Abbey Effect

I like going to after school clubs like rounders and athletics.  Whitley is a great place to make friends.”
