Leading the Way - 2009

Whitley Abbey has been chosen to lead the way in helping schools around the country improve.

Headteacher Lorraine Allen has become a national leader of education. This means she helps the heads of other schools improve their standards and advises ministers on education policy.

The School has also become a National Support School which means staff are available to help at other school struggling to raise standards.

Mrs. Allen said: "We are delighted that Whitley Abbey has been selected to help other schools raise attainment. It is a measure of  our capacity and ability to lead improvement not just at Whitley Abbey but with other schools."

Chief executive of the National College of Leadership Toby Salt said "I am so proud that these outstanding school leaders like Lorraine Allen are being honoured in this way."
