A key aim of the School is to analyse and remove known barriers to learning for all students. This applies to all students whatever their ability or attitude to learning.
For many students this process will mainly involve their parents attending regular Progress Review Evenings and routine monitoring by parents and the tutor in-between times. All students receive half termly progress reviews that report on progress against target attainment levels and an attitude to learning score.
We set attainment targets annually based on prior attainment data from Key Stage Two or Three and our own judgements as to a student’s ability. These are deliberately challenging to raise expectations and standards. At Key Stage Three these will be set against a National Curriculum Level and at Key Stage four and Post 16 against examination levels A* to G.
Our Attitude to learning measure is the most telling grade we report on. If all is well then a student should expect to receive at least a 6, with increasing levels of effort receiving a score up to 9. Anything less than a 6 rings important alarm bells.
If students fail to meet their targets or their attitude to learning scores take a dip then more serious intervention work will be triggered. Any student who has individual difficulties in reaching the standards set will receive intensive and sustained support. This will be kept in place for as long as it takes to set them back on track.
